Daily life here is full of sound bites, visual clips, and special odors. Let me share some of these with you.
Sights: Children with dirt smeared faces; children with dirt-filled boxes- "habitats" for unlucky lizards, snakes, frogs, tadpoles. Children on bikes, larger children corraling or entertaining smaller children. clothes hanging on the many lines, a silver bunny in a cage,
Sounds: a loud bell at meal times to call people to stand in the food line;
Parents shouting to find their kids, 'OWEN!' 'PATRICK!'
clanking of the men lifting weights from 5:15am until 6am on weekdays.
The generator rumbling from about 6am to 9am and then again from 7:30pm until about 9pm
The doves, jays, tiny birds singing in the early mornings.
The inevitable small child crying in anger or from injury
Sheep blatting or rustling through the dead oak trees
Smells: cedar shavings for the bucket toilets, Chorizo on Friday mornings, dust, Fabuloso (a very strongly fragranced cleaning spray), campfire every morning, and many evenings
